Psyllium is a form of fiber made from the husks of the Plantago ovata plant's seeds.


It sometimes goes by the name ispaghula.


It's most commonly known as a laxative.


The husk of Psyllium is the actual coating of mucilage around the seed.


It is considered pure dietary fiber and is the only part of the plant used in manufacturing Psyllium products.


Its nutritional value consists mainly of glycosides, proteins, Polysaccharides, vitamin B1 etc.


They are soluble in water, expanding and becoming mucilaginous when wet.

Psyllium is used to relive constipation, diverticular disease, irritable bowel syndrome, celiac disease, and diarrhea, also used as a regular dietary supplement to improve and maintain regular GI transit.

Psyllium has been used in traditional medicine in India and also mention in ancient Indian Ayurvedic.
